Me and my Girlfriend are looking to do this sort of photo in these effects and blowing it up onto canvas, but i have no idea what effects these are and how to change an ordinary photo to it, these are the links can anybody help?

I’m planning on getting large prints of our Bloodhound for my fiances new office.
My plan was one of her at 3 months (which I cannot find the negative for, but I do have the picture) and one of her now (at 3 years – which would be done with a non-digital 35 mm lens).
My question is – what is the best and cheapest way to do this to get a quality product – I would like it to be done on canvas or something that would not need immediate framing. However, if this cannot be done at a reasonable price (Walmart has photo canvas 16×20 for just over $60) how would you suggest I accomplish this?
My mom threw in the suggestion that I get a black and white print of the dog divided into three separate canvases that would, of course, go next to each other on the wall. However, that sounds really. really. expensive for someone fresh out of college like myself.
Basically, I’ve never done anything like this, although I love photography and it was a hobby of mine when I was younger. Any suggestions you could give on where to go, pricing, etc, would really help me out – and let me know how much Ramen Noodles I’ll be eating next month.

I’m getting a 10 by 18 printed for a christmas present, and canvas is a little too expensive, but is a paper print lesser quality or not as good as canvas? Will it make too much of a difference?
