Photo Canvas Album

I am trying to make some gifts for Christmas. My idea is to take black and white photos and print them onto a very thin paper (like tracing paper or something). I then want to somehow use a diluted glue substance to transfer the thin paper to a canvas. Is this possible? If so, what type of paper would I need and could I do it on my printer at home? Also, could I just water down some glue and paint over it to add some effect or is there a certain substance that would do the trick? I want it to look different than just a photo.
